Forceps and Vacuum Delivery
An assisted birth is when forceps or a ventouse suction cup are used to help deliver the baby. Ventouse and forceps are safe and only used when necessary for you and your baby. Assisted delivery is less common in women who've had a spontaneous vaginal birth before.
What is the difference between forceps and vacuum delivery?
There are two types of instrumental vaginal births • Forceps birth - metal forceps are placed around the baby's head to help guide it out. Ventouse (also called Vacuum) birth - a suction cup is placed on the baby's head to help guide it out.
